Miracles Really Do Happen
She was not quite 21 years old. Life was challenging as she tried to raise her 3 year old little boy without a husband, without a father for her little boy. This time she was even more afraid. This time there was no fairy tale dreams. This little one she was now carrying would also be raised without a father. Taking care of little ones, working a full time job, trying to pay for child care and all of the other bills was just too much. She knew she would not be able to handle one more mouth to feed.
The year was 2001, her name was Rachael, and she was my birth mother! Rachel didn’t always make the best decisions, but she did make the best decision when she chose to give me life. While it must have been very painful, she decided to find a family to love and care for me. My mother Rachael chose the “adoption option” and that is why I am here today, and why I will always be prolife.
Every child is a gift from God and every child deserves to live their own life. I love what former President Ronald Reagan had to say about this. He said, “I have noticed that everyone who is for abortion has already been born.” I have thought a lot about this. Every day I get to go to school, play sports and have fun with friends and family. I am alive, I have a life to live, and it is a very, very good thing!
I have been raised to understand that every life is important. This last fall, I participated in a pro-life walk from my school to the local abortion clinic. During our 2 mile walk I had time to think about mothers and babies. I thought about my birth mother Rachael and how much she must have loved me. I prayed that other pregnant mothers would feel the same way and allow their babies to live a life like I get to live.
The number of babies who die from abortion every year is 1.2 million! Those who were aborted in 2000-2002 could have been my friends, my classmates, my teammates. I am so sad that those kids are not here today. They could be going to the mall, hanging out with friends and enjoying everything about growing up. No kid should miss out on these great times. I will do my part to make sure the prolife message is heard. This is why I would like to attend the 42nd annual Allen County March for Life. All life is important and all of us must work hard to keep this message alive.
