Reverend John M D'ArcyBoston native and the son of Irish immigrants, Bishop D’Arcy was born August 18, 1932. He studied at Saint John’s Seminary in Brighton, Massachusetts, and was ordained to the priesthood February 2, 1957. He studied in Rome at the Angelicum, from which he received a doctorate in spiritual theology in1968. He was ordained as auxiliary bishop of the Archdiocese of Boston on February 14, 1975. He also served as spiritual director and professor of spiritual theology at Saint John’s Seminary from 1968-85.

On May 1, 1985, he was installed as the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend.

Bishop D’Arcy has been a wonderful advocate for life during his service to the Fort Wayne – South Bend Diocese. He has touched many lives here on earth and for eternity while defended the most vulnerable among us. Even though his retirement began with the installation of Bishop Kevin Rhoades on January 13, 2010 he continues to be a light for the truth in Northern Indiana.
