Indiana State Sen. Dennis Kruse has represented Hoosiers from Northeast Indiana at the Statehouse for 24 years. He served in the Indiana House of Representatives from 1989 to 2004, and was elected to the Senate in 2004, where he continues to serve today. As a state senator, Kruse represents District 14, which includes portions of DeKalb and Allen counties.
Kruse has served as chair of the Senate Committee on Education and Career Development since 2009, and he is currently ranking member of the Senate Utilities Committee. He sits on three other committees: Agriculture and Natural Resources, Pensions and Labor, and Rules and Legislative Procedure.
Professionally, Kruse is an auctioneer and owner of Dennis Kruse & Associates, auctioneering and real estate. He served as president of the National Auctioneers Association from 2005 to 2006, and owned the Reppert School of Auctioneering from 1996 to 2011. He has been a licensed Indiana real estate broker since 1968.
Kruse holds a bachelor’s degree from Indiana University’s School of Education. Kruse’s civic involvement goes above and beyond his service in the General Assembly. He serves on Trine University’s Board of Trustees and is a member of the Indiana Education Roundtable.
He is an Indiana Republican Convention Delegate and a precinct committeeman for Jackson Township South in DeKalb County.
Through the years, Kruse has been honored with numerous awards for his civicservice. This year, he was named Legislator of the Year by the Indiana School Counselor Association. He earned that same title from Mothers Against Drunk Driving in 1996, and from the National Federation of Independent Business in 2010. In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate from Harrison College.
Kruse resides in Auburn with his wife, Kay. He has four sons and six grandchildren.
