On April 12th, over 300 supporters filled the room at the Mirage Banquet Hall in Decatur for Right to Life of Northeast Indiana’s 4th Annual Spring Banquet.
Super bowl champion, Catholic father of eight, Harvard graduate, founder of several community programs for children, and national author and speaker Matt Birk addressed the audience. Matt told witty stories about his football career and family and encouraged the audience to “not just be pro-life, do pro-life.” He continued, “If we're going to have a great society, we have to all agree that every single life has dignity and worth, no matter what...Now we know that the [spiritual] battle has already been won [by Christ], but that doesn't mean that we don't have a role to play in this [abortion] fight."
Zach Rodgers, CEO of Right to Life of Northeast Indiana, gave an update on the organization's past twelve months. His update included how two Sidewalk Advocates have been able to direct women seeking pregnancy help away from Planned Parenthood and to life-affirming care at Women’s Care Center next door this spring, the organization’s search for a new executive director, the over 22,500 carnations that have been ordered to be distributed on Mother’s Day, and the 3,000 students that will have heard pro-life presentations by the end of the school year.
Zach announced that actor, filmmaker, and champion of children and family rights Kirk Cameron has been booked as the keynote speaker for Right to Life’s Fall Banquet on October 14th.
While gearing up for the Fall Banquet, there are still many ways for Right to Life supporters to get involved over the summer. In June, Right to Life will host a “Father’s Day Night” at a Tincaps baseball game, with a portion of all ticket proceeds benefiting RLNI. High school and college students can join in on the fun at our annual summer camp held at the University of Saint Francis, with lots of exciting pro-life breakout sessions for opportunities to learn how to be a bold voice for the voiceless, while also having plenty of free time for games and fellowship with like-minded peers.
RLNI will host its newest event, celebrating the overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court Case Dobbs v. Jackson, on June 21st, by hosting a Day of Dobbs Celebration cookout and open house at the office on Lake Ave. This family-friendly event will offer something for every age, all while celebrating the return of abortion laws to the states, which statistics show have saved over 22,000 babies, and maternal mortality rates have fallen 17% in the first full year after the Dobbs decision. In Indiana, abortion numbers have fallen 98%.
Thank you to all our sponsors, attendees, and volunteers for making this evening possible!
