Release: Planned Parenthood Federally Defunded for One Year

By

Right to Life of Northeast Indiana celebrates the long-awaited decision to defund Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers at the federal level for one year. After years of receiving millions in taxpayer dollars, this marks a major victory for the pro-life movement.

Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider, kills about an average of 1,100 babies per day across the United States and receives almost $700 million in taxpayer dollars per year, according to their annual reporting. The federal budget bill will defund them of over $500 million.

“The federal defunding of Planned Parenthood strips away 39% of the organization’s over $2 billion annual budget,” said Zach Rodgers, CEO of Right to Life of Northeast Indiana. “An organization that kills over 400,000 preborn children every year should never have been receiving taxpayer dollars in the first place. This is a huge win for life and another step toward ending the evil of abortion in our country.”

“There are 27 Community Health Centers operating across 285 service sites in Indiana—compared to just 11 Planned Parenthood locations,” added Nick Boratenski, Executive Director. “Additionally, there are almost one hundred pregnancy resource centers in the state that provide free, confidential pregnancy testing and ultrasounds to women. These health centers provide real, life-affirming care. The defunding of Planned Parenthood doesn’t take away healthcare access; it allows the opportunity to re-route funds to providers who care for both mother and child.”

Right to Life of Northeast Indiana remains committed to our mission of promoting and defending innocent human life through education, advocacy, and public policy, from conception until natural death.
